Official in Lviv Region Suspected of Official Negligence

In the Lviv region, law enforcement officers informed a female official of suspicion of official negligence.

The total amount of damage caused to the territorial community due to the negligent attitude of the suspect towards the fulfillment of her official duties amounts to more than 745,000 hryvnias. It has been established that the head of the land resources, cadastre, and ecology department of one of the village councils in the Lviv region failed to initiate the issue of conducting an inventory of communal agricultural lands, did not control their use, and did not take measures to formalize lease agreements for land plots and collect rent for their use.

As a result, land plots with a total area of more than 158 hectares, which are in communal ownership, were illegally occupied by citizens and a farming enterprise – they were plowed, sown with agricultural crops, and the harvest was collected from them. Meanwhile, the village council did not receive any income from the leasing of these lands. Thus, the territorial community suffered damage totaling more than 745,000 hryvnias.

The official was exposed by investigators of the Stryi district police department together with operatives of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Lviv region, under the procedural guidance of the Stryi district prosecutor’s office. She was informed of suspicion of committing a crime under part 2 of article 367 (Official Negligence) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article’s sanction provides for a punishment of imprisonment for a term of two to five years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years and with a fine of two hundred and fifty to seven hundred and fifty tax-free minimum incomes of citizens or without such.

Pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
