
A major traffic accident occurred in the Lviv region, leaving nine people injured. The incident took place on December 7 at around 7:20 p.m. on the Lviv–Krakovets highway near the village of Kozhychi, Yavoriv district.
Preliminary details:
According to the police, a Scania truck driven by a 48-year-old man from Lviv collided with a Mercedes-Benz Vito minivan operated by a 24-year-old resident of a village in Yavoriv district.
Injured in the accident:
- The minivan driver
- Three female residents of Yavoriv, aged 18, 20, and 22
- Two women from Lviv, aged 19 and 20
- A 19-year-old man from Yavoriv
- A 21-year-old man from Ivano-Frankivsk region
- A 23-year-old man from Lviv
All victims sustained bodily injuries and were hospitalized.
Investigation:
Yavoriv District Police Department launched criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of road safety rules.
The maximum penalty includes:
- up to 3 years of restricted freedom;
- loss of driving privileges for the same duration.
Law enforcement is currently working to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
Preventive measures in Lviv region:
In light of rising road accidents, intensified traffic safety operations are underway in the region.
Measures include:
- increasing the number of patrol police crews
- involving community police officers in high-risk areas
- monitoring compliance with traffic rules by drivers and pedestrians
The aim is to reduce road accident rates and prevent further injuries or fatalities.
