Following a public prosecution by the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, three Ukrainian citizens were found guilty. They were convicted of high treason, participation in a terrorist organisation and activities of armed groups not provided for by law (Art. 111, parts 1 and 2, Art. 258-3, part 2, Art. 260 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The sentence is 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Prosecutors proved in court that residents of Donetsk and Luhansk regions voluntarily sided with the enemy in 2022 and joined the so-called “people’s militias” of the “DPR” and “LPR”. These terrorist organisations are part of the power bloc of the aggressor country. One of them also fought in the Storm battalion.
The men were enlisted as riflemen and grenade launchers. The convicts received weapons, military ammunition, and underwent military training in combat tactics and assault, offensive and retreat.
Subsequently, they performed combat missions in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk, Luhansk and Kharkiv regions, aimed at obstructing and counteracting the AFU. In particular, they reinforced the firing positions of the Russian armed forces, arranging trenches and dugouts, and performed guard duty to protect the territory. They were also responsible for the security of the locations of the Russian army and monitored the military equipment and personnel of the AFU, which they reported to the command.
All members of the occupation forces were detained by the Ukrainian Defence Forces.
The special pre-trial and pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the SBU Office in Lviv region.
