Following a public prosecution by prosecutors of the Chervonohrad District Prosecutor’s Office, a 19-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman were convicted of robbery and illegal deprivation of liberty (Article 187(4) and Article 146(2) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
They were sentenced to 8 years, 3 months and 8 years in prison respectively.
Prosecutors proved in court that in January 2023, two local residents attacked a 79-year-old man in a village in Chervonohrad district.
The defendants came to the pensioner’s home, knocked on the door, and when the man opened it, the 19-year-old hit him in the face with his fist. After that, the accomplices dragged the older man into one of the rooms of the house, sat him on a chair and tied his hands with a sheet. At the same time, one of the defendants began to beat him with his fists and demanded all his savings.
After numerous tortures, the exhausted victim gave the defendants more than UAH 18,000.
However, the accomplices did not stop there, but threw the elderly man into the cellar, where they put a chair on the door to prevent him from getting out.
The latter managed to escape with severe injuries after a while.
The defendants will remain in custody until the verdict enters into force.
The pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigators of the Chervonohrad District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region.
