Two Men Sentenced to 9 Years for Drug Lab

Two men have been sentenced to 9 years in prison for organizing a drug lab in the Stryi community.

Prosecutors from the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office proved in court the guilt of two men who were temporarily residing in Stryi and engaged in the production of psychotropic substances. The imposed punishment is 9 years imprisonment with confiscation of property.

It was proven that in September last year, two men aged 21 and 22 organized a drug lab for the production of amphetamine. To accomplish this, they rented a house in one of the villages in the Stryi community. Using specialized Telegram channels, they purchased the necessary equipment and precursors. They also received step-by-step instructions on how to prepare amphetamine through a messenger.

The manufactured psychotropic substances were planned to be distributed, but the lab’s activities were stopped by law enforcement officers, and the ‘cooks’ were detained. During searches conducted at the laboratory, nearly 1.5 kg of precursors, about 400 g of amphetamine, and tools and equipment for manufacturing psychotropic substances were found and confiscated. Additionally, a particularly dangerous psychotropic substance ‘PVP’ was seized from one of the men.

Both were charged with illegal manufacturing and storage with the intent to sell psychotropic substances, illegal acquisition and storage of precursors, and acquisition and storage of equipment intended for manufacturing psychotropic substances (part 3 of Article 307, part 3 of Article 311, part 2 of Article 313 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Furthermore, for one of them, additional charges were for the acquisition and storage of psychotropic substances without the intent to sell (part 3 of Article 309 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
