Under the procedural supervision of the Lviv Region Prosecutor’s Office, two residents of Lviv region were exposed and served a notice of suspicion of extortion (Part 4 Art. 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, the suspects demanded that a resident of Drohobych pay them USD 2 thousand of a non-existent debt. In case of non-payment, the men threatened to physically assault the victim and damage his property.
Law enforcers detained the suspects in accordance with Art. 208 of the CPC of Ukraine after handing over the next payment.
Investigative actions are ongoing, the issue of seizure of property is being decided.
The suspects are currently in custody.
The pre-trial investigation is carried out by the Investigation Department of the National Police in Lviv region, with the operational support of the Strategic Investigations Department in Lviv region of the State Secret Service of the National Police of Ukraine.
Note: In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
