Following a public prosecution by prosecutors of the Halych District Prosecutor’s Office of Lviv, a 38-year-old Lviv resident was found guilty of malicious failure to fulfil parental responsibilities for the care of her child, which caused her death (Article 166 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
She was sentenced to 2 years in prison.
The prosecutor proved in court that in August last year, the defendant and her two-year-old daughter were resting on the shore of a pond in a village in Lviv district.
However, the mother was drunk and left the child unattended near the pond. As a result, the young girl, left unattended, fell into the pond and drowned.
It was only a few hours later that the woman noticed her daughter was missing and reported her disappearance to the police. Law enforcement officers found the child’s body in the water near the place where the mother was resting.
Until the verdict enters into force, the defendant will be held in custody.
The pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigators of the Lviv District Police Department No. 1 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv region.
