The prosecutors of the Stryi district prosecutor’s office sent an indictment to the court against the former and current directors of the utility company. They are charged with land pollution (part 2 of article 28, part 1, 2 of article 239 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The latter was also charged with official negligence, which caused serious consequences (Part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The investigation established that in Slavsk, during the years 2018-2022, the defendants alternately headed the utility company and illegally buried garbage at the local solid waste landfill, which was prohibited for use.
Previously, an agreement on the provision of household waste removal services was concluded between the village council and the utility company. According to its conditions, the waste was to be taken to the active Stryi solid waste landfill.
However, officials only created a documentary appearance of garbage disposal at the place specified in the contract. And in fact, it was taken to the Slavsky closed landfill, whose activity has been stopped since 2010 according to the instructions of the State Environmental Inspection in the Lviv region. Accordingly, they polluted the land with waste harmful to life, human health and the environment.
As a result of such actions, ecological pollution of the lands near the landfill, the coastal protective strip and the surface waters of the local river was caused. The total amount of damages is almost UAH 2.8 million.
The pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigators of the Stryi district police department of the Main Department of the National Police in Lviv region under the operational support of the Department of the Security Service of Ukraine in Lviv region.
Note: in accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proven in a legal manner and established by a court verdict.
