Kievan Rus Settlement Returned to State by Court

The settlement from the times of Kievan Rus on the outskirts of Sudova Vyshnia has been returned to the state thanks to the efforts of the prosecutor’s office.

This refers to an archaeological site of national importance – the Settlement of the chronicle city of Vyshnia, located on the western outskirts of the city of Sudova Vyshnia in the tracts ‘Zamchyska’ and ‘Valy’. In 2001, the Settlement was entered into the State Register of Immovable Monuments of Ukraine as an archaeological monument dating back to the times of Kievan Rus.

However, in August 2019, a land plot of 1 hectare, where the Settlement is located, was illegally transferred to private ownership of an individual. This individual, in turn, leased the land to an agricultural enterprise. Thus, the archaeological site was under threat of destruction since the plot was intended for agricultural use.

In response to the violation, the prosecutor’s office appealed to the court. During the court proceedings, the land plot with the Settlement on it was voluntarily returned to state ownership by the defendants. It is currently classified as land for historical and cultural purposes, which guarantees its protection.

Thus, the Settlement of the chronicle city of Vyshnia is once again under state protection.
