An inspector of Lviv Customs has been caught receiving a bribe for duty-free importation of jewelry.
According to the investigation, a state inspector demanded and received 15,000 USD from a resident of Lviv. For this amount, he ensured the unhindered import of branded jewelry from Poland without customs duties. In addition, he instructed how to ‘conceal’ the goods from customs control.
The inspector was detained after receiving the last installment of the ‘kickback’ – 10,000 USD. During searches, all the unjust profit obtained was seized along with part of a previous installment – 1,600 USD.
Under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the inspector was notified of suspicion of receiving undue benefit. Currently, the suspect has been suspended from his position. A preventive measure in the form of detention with the right to bail has been selected for him.
