The Cyber Police have identified cases of extortion through a counterfeit Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) website.
Fraudsters create a phishing site that mimics the official MIA resource. Links to it are embedded in websites of various content types. As soon as a person clicks on the link, a fake webpage with MIA logos and text appears. The text describes an alleged violation by the user and demands payment of a fine supposedly on behalf of the MIA of Ukraine. The page contains either a QR code or an active link for making a monetary transfer. The text threatens the user to encourage quick and thoughtless action.
“Do not click on suspicious links. Remember, the real web address of government authorities always has the gov.ua domain,” emphasises the Cyber Police.
The MIA and the Cyber Police call: take care of your safety in cyberspace!
