Smuggling Operation Worth UAH 30 Million Uncovered at Uhryniv Checkpoint: 62-Year-Old Lviv Resident Caught with Hidden Luxury Goods

In August 2025, at the “Uhryniv” border checkpoint, Ukrainian border guards intercepted a major smuggling attempt. A 62-year-old resident of Lviv Region, driving a Renault vehicle, tried to illegally bring a large shipment of undeclared goods into Ukraine.

Thanks to coordinated efforts of the 7th Carpathian Border Guard Detachment, the 6th Volyn Detachment, and detectives of the Bureau of Economic Security in Lviv Region, smuggled items with an estimated total value of nearly UAH 30 million were seized.

🔹 Items discovered included:

  • Over 400 premium mobile phones of various brands;
  • Approximately 3,500 units of branded perfumes and testers;
  • Around 19,000 bottles of e-cigarette liquids;
  • Several small household appliances.

The smuggled items were concealed among food products and were intended for sale within Lviv Region.

🔹 Expert evaluations found:

  • Electronics and perfumes worth over UAH 17 million;
  • E-cigarette liquids worth over UAH 12 million.

All goods and the vehicle were placed under arrest.

🔹 Legal qualification:

  • Smuggling (Part 2, Article 201-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine);
  • Smuggling of excisable goods (Part 2, Article 201-4).

The investigation is being conducted by detectives of the Bureau of Economic Security in Lviv Region under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
