The suspect was detained and served a notice of suspicion. He may face up to 10 years in prison for his crime.
The illegal activity of the medical worker was exposed by operatives of the Strategic Investigations Department in Lviv region together with investigators of the regional police.
According to the plan, the doctor promised the person liable for military service a positive decision of the military medical commission on his unfitness for further service. The cost of this service was $5,000.
On Friday, 9 February, operatives detained a surgeon at a regional hospital immediately after receiving $5,000 in bribes. The money was seized and his workplace was searched.
The doctor was served a notice of suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 368 (Acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article provides for imprisonment for a term of five to ten years with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years, with confiscation of property.
