Prosecutors from the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office have completed a pre-trial investigation regarding a 66-year-old resident of Lviv, who is accused of organizing the illegal transfer of a person across the state border of Ukraine.
The investigation established that in February of this year, the accused organized a scheme for the illegal border crossing of a man of conscription age. During a meeting with the “client”, he provided details of the plan, including that the man was required to provide a copy of his passport for inspection for possible cooperation with law enforcement agencies.
The subject assured that on the designated day, the conscript would be accompanied to the Zakarpattia region, where he would be taken 100 meters from the border. From there, other individuals would seamlessly lead the man to Hungary and help him obtain refugee status. He valued his services at 17,000 USD, which had to be handed over in cash personally.
The accused was detained during the receipt of the full amount of unlawful benefit. At the prosecutor’s request, the court has seized the apartment of the subject. The pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators from the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Lviv region with the operational support of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Lviv region.
