Lviv Resident Exposed for Bribery in University Admission

A Lviv resident was exposed for bribery in university admission.

According to the investigation, the suspect implemented a scheme to receive improper benefits from a 33-year-old applicant of one of Lviv’s universities. For 1,100 US dollars, he promised to influence university officials to admit the applicant to the institution. In case of refusal to provide him with the bribe, he assured that he would create obstacles for admission.

The man was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine while receiving the second part of the agreed sum of 600 US dollars. Under procedural guidance from the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, he was informed of suspicion of receiving improper benefits for himself to influence the decision-making by a person authorized to perform state functions, combined with extortion of such benefits (Part 3, Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The question of selecting a preventive measure for the suspect is currently being decided. Investigative actions continue, and all involved persons are being identified. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Lviv region with materials from the Security Service of Ukraine in the Lviv region.
