Lviv Man to Stand Trial for Promoting Communism on a Banned Social Network

The Frankivsk District Prosecutor’s Office in Lviv has sent an indictment to court against a 45-year-old resident accused of distributing and publicly displaying symbols of the communist regime. His actions are classified under Part 1 of Article 436-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Investigators found that during 2021, the accused actively used his profile on the banned social network “Odnoklassniki” to propagate communist ideology.

The materials he shared included:

  • Images of a sickle and hammer crossed within a five-pointed star against a red flag background;
  • A portrait of a communist party leader accompanied by party slogans.

The pre-trial investigation was conducted by officers of Police Unit No. 2 of the Lviv District Police Department, with operational support from the SBU in the Lviv region.

Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
