Investigation into Child Deaths at Lviv Rehabilitation Facility

The Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the causes of death of two orphaned children at the Children’s Home in Lviv.

This facility is part of the Center for Medical Rehabilitation and Palliative Care for Children. It provides care for children deprived of parental care, with central nervous system injuries and mental disorders. At the end of September, a 4-year-old girl died at the Children’s Home. According to the medical certificate, the death was due to congenital diseases.

An investigation into the child’s death has been initiated under Article 137 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. On the same day, an 11-month-old boy died. Prosecutors of the Galician District Prosecutor’s Office had previously filed an indictment against his mother for causing grievous bodily harm.

The investigation established that the woman had beaten her son when he was just a month old. The boy suffered a traumatic brain injury and other injuries. He was placed in a specialized institution. The court granted a motion for another forensic examination.

Every child deserves safety, care, and a life without fear and pain, stated the prosecutor’s office. Each such death is not just a statistic but an irreparable loss.
