A group of individuals will stand trial for an attempted terrorist act near the location of a volunteer formation in the Kyiv region.
Prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office have completed the pre-trial investigation and directed the indictment to court concerning a resident of the Kirovohrad region and two residents of the Vinnytsia region. **The investigation found** that in December last year in the Kyiv region, the accused, following the task of a representative of the Russian Federation, planned to plant an explosive device. Specifically, near the entrance to the premises housing the volunteer territorial community formation. Subsequently, he intended to remotely detonate it using a detonator.
To accomplish this, the accused settled in a hotel near the designated crime scene. Following instructions received via the Telegram messenger from a representative of the aggressor state, he took two backpacks left in the corridor near the door of his room. One contained a homemade explosive device, while the other contained military uniform of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The explosives were manufactured by two residents of Vinnytsia, who had been previously recruited by a representative of the Russian Federation. Acting on his clear instructions, the women transported the explosive device to the Kyiv region and planted it in a prearranged location, known as a “cache,” for further transfer to the direct executor.
Executing the plan, the man dressed in the military uniform and took a taxi to the required address. Upon arrival, he planted the explosive, which was disguised in a backpack. However, thanks to coordinated actions by law enforcement, the terrorist act in a public place was timely prevented.
All accused are charged with state treason, attempted terrorist act (part 2 of article 111, part 2 of article 15 part 2 of article 258). The man is additionally charged with attempted illegal acquisition, storage, and carrying of explosive substances and explosive devices (part 2 of article 15 part 1 of article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), while the women are charged with illegal storage and carrying of explosive substances and explosive devices, as well as illegal manufacturing of explosive substances and explosive devices (part 1 of article 263, part 2 of article 263-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). At the prosecution’s request, all defendants are in custody.
