The Lviv Prosecutor’s Office Investigates Abuses in the Medical Field
The Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office has announced suspicions against key figures in the Lviv Diagnostic and Treatment Center, including the chief nurse and the person responsible for public procurement. Charges have been brought under Article 364 (abuse of office) and Article 191 (embezzlement) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, a scheme was uncovered in which state funds were embezzled during the procurement of medical supplies. A contractor was chosen who submitted an inflated price proposal, and a Lviv resident arranged for the supply of products at excessively high prices.
The actions of the chief nurse, who accepted substandard goods, resulted in financial losses for the hospital amounting to approximately 1.7 million hryvnias. Payments for these products were even made according to the submitted documents.
Investigation Progress
During the searches, investigators confiscated money, mobile phones, computer equipment, and other items. The operational support was provided by the Strategic Investigations Department and the Security Service of Ukraine in the Lviv region. The pre-trial investigation is still ongoing, and the prosecutor’s office has taken measures to suspend the medical facility employees from their positions.
It is noteworthy that according to the Constitution of Ukraine, the accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
