In the Lviv region, an indictment has been submitted to court against a 45-year-old Lviv resident accused of the unlawful circulation of firearms, ammunition and explosive substances. The document was prepared by prosecutors of the Halytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Lviv.

According to the investigation, while still at liberty, the man unlawfully acquired an arsenal of weapons and ammunition and set up secret caches in the Lviv region. Later, while being held in custody at State Institution “Lviv Penal Institution No. 19” in a case concerning a fatal beating, he organised the remote sale of this arsenal.

Investigators established that from his remand cell the man used a mobile phone to find buyers, arrange sales and receive payment. Three instances of such activity were documented in February, March and May 2026. The total value of the batches transferred amounted to 240,000 UAH, which was paid into the suspect’s bank card. After receiving the funds, he sent the buyer photographs of the cache locations and their geographical coordinates.

During examinations of the scenes in the village of Viazova and the urban-type settlement of Kulykiv in the Lviv region, law enforcement officers discovered and seized 2 assault rifles, 2 machine guns, 2 assault rifles, 17 magazines for automatic rifled weapons, as well as 570 rounds of various calibres. Separately, they seized more than 500 grams of an explosive substance based on RDX with an igniting tube, whose power, according to the investigation, is approximately one and a half times that of TNT. At a third location near Kulykiv, an automatic Kalashnikov rifle was found with a magazine loaded with 30 rounds.

The Lviv resident is charged with the unlawful acquisition, storage and sale of firearms, ammunition, explosive substances and explosive devices under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He is currently being held in custody. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by Lviv Police Department No. 1 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Lviv region, based on materials from the Security Service of Ukraine Directorate in the Lviv region and with operational support from Lviv Police Department No. 1.

Pursuant to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and may not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt has been proven in the manner prescribed by law and established by a guilty verdict of a court.
