
In the Lviv region, an indictment has been submitted to court against a resident of the region suspected of illegally transporting a consignment of cigarettes without excise tax stamps to an international border crossing point. This was reported by the Territorial Department of the Bureau of Economic Security in the Lviv region.
According to the investigation, in Lviv the man illegally purchased a consignment of tobacco products that did not bear the prescribed excise tax stamps. He loaded the products into a vehicle and transported them towards the state border of Ukraine.
The cigarettes were to be delivered to one of the international border crossing points for further sale. Detectives of the Bureau of Economic Security uncovered this activity, stopped the illegal movement of excisable goods and seized the entire consignment of cigarettes.
The man is charged under Part 1 of Article 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for liability for the illegal purchase, storage and transportation of excisable goods for the purpose of sale. Procedural supervision in the proceedings is carried out by prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, with operational support provided by Lviv Customs.
Pursuant to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and may not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt has been proven in accordance with the law and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
