Resident of Novyi Rozdil sentenced to 7 years for series of thefts and robbery

A 26-year-old resident of Novyi Rozdil has been sentenced to 7 years’ imprisonment for a series of property offences, including theft, robbery and misappropriation of official documents. This was reported by the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office.

The court established that the accused, having been released from prison in 2024 for committing similar offences, went on to reoffend by committing a number of further crimes. In October 2025, he entered a residential property in one of the villages of the Stryi district and stole a bicycle worth almost UAH 5,800.

In December 2025, in Novyi Rozdil, the man approached a woman from behind and snatched a bag from her hand, which contained money, a mobile phone, a bank card and other items. The total value of the loss in this incident exceeded UAH 3,500, after which the perpetrator additionally withdrew another UAH 2,500 from the victim’s account using the stolen bank card.

In addition, in March 2025, the convicted man stole a bag from a flat in Novyi Rozdil containing UAH 14,000, bank cards and the victim’s passport. The total losses caused to all the victims across the different incidents amount to over UAH 25,000.

The man’s actions were classified as theft, robbery and misappropriation of official documents under Part 4 of Art. 185, Part 4 of Art. 186, Part 1 of Art. 357 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Until the verdict takes legal effect, the convicted man will remain in custody. The pre-trial investigation in the case was carried out by the Police Department of the Stryi District Police Division of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region, and the verdict will come into force after the expiry of the time limit for lodging an appeal.
