A 21-year-old resident of Boryslav was convicted of a public accusation by the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office. He was found guilty of violating road safety rules by a person who drives a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and drugs, which caused the death of several people (Part 4 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
He was sentenced to 12 years in prison. Also deprived of the right to drive vehicles for a period of 10 years.
On August 24, 2021, at around 10:00 p.m., a large-scale traffic accident occurred in Drohobych region.
Prosecutors proved in court that the accused was driving a Volkswagen without a driver’s license and at the same time was under the influence of alcohol and drugs. He drove into the oncoming lane and collided with a taxi.
As a result of the accident, the driver of the oncoming car and two of his passengers, including a minor, died on the spot. Another six passengers of both cars received injuries of varying severity.
The pre-trial investigation was carried out by the investigators of the Main Department of the National Police in the Lviv Region.
There is currently an appeal period for the decision.
