Resident of Pustomyty Convicted of Fraud for 220,000 UAH

In Pustomyty, a court found a 42-year-old man guilty of fraud. He abused trust and, in collusion with other individuals, misappropriated someone else’s funds. He has been sentenced to 4 years and 2 months in prison.

The criminal offence occurred at the end of December 2024. The victim received a call from a person claiming to be an acquaintance, who stated they had been in a car accident. During the conversation, the victim was convincingly urged of the urgency to transfer money for surgery and treatment.

On the same day, the fraudster appeared at the victim’s home, identified himself as a paramedic, and received the funds. Believing he was helping a friend, the man handed over 3,000 US dollars, 2,000 euros, and 5,000 hryvnias. The total loss amounted to nearly 220,000 UAH.

The pre-trial investigation was conducted by the Stryi District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police. The verdict will come into force after the expiration of the appeal period.
