Resident of Stryi Sentenced to 3 Years for Draft Evasion

Prosecutors from the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office proved in court the guilt of a 47-year-old resident of Stryi who evaded conscription for military service during mobilization, as stipulated by Article 336 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The court sentenced him to three years of imprisonment. In 2024, a military medical commission deemed him fit for service based on his health condition, as confirmed by a medical report. However, the man refused to receive the summons to report on the specified date for dispatch to a military unit and did not appear for service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, citing religious beliefs. The summons was for military service during mobilization, not for conscription service, which can be replaced with alternative service. Thus, he violated the requirements of current legislation. The pre-trial investigation was conducted by the Stryi District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Lviv region. The court’s verdict will come into legal force after the expiration of the appeal period.
