In Zhydachiv, a 38-year-old man attempted to kill a serviceman who was on leave. The incident occurred at the end of December last year when a conflict arose between the accused’s brother and another group. The man, trying to assist his relative, grabbed an axe and charged at the opponents. Seeing the weapon, they began to flee.
The attacker caught up with one of them and struck the 52-year-old serviceman several times on the head with the back of the axe. When the victim fell, the accused stepped away but returned to deliver another blow. After this, he discarded the axe and fled. The soldier’s friends called for medical assistance and the police.
As a result of the attack, the victim sustained serious bodily injuries, including skull fractures, and was hospitalised for an extended period. The attacker hid with acquaintances in Lviv but was apprehended by law enforcement. He is charged with attempted murder. The court has imposed the strictest preventive measure – detention without bail.
