
Prosecutors of Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office proved in court the guilt of a 30-year-old man who committed robbery and evaded investigation for over 5 years.
He was sentenced to 7 years and 6 months in prison with confiscation of property. In late October 2018, in Stryi, two men robbed a pedestrian. Initially, they offered the victim help to get home, and when they parted, one of the robbers punched the man in the face. When he fell, the attackers took his phone, wallet with cash and bank cards, and a ring.
After the crime, the men fled to Drohobych, where they sold the stolen items and split the money. Shortly after, one of them was apprehended by law enforcement and subsequently convicted of robbery (part 2 of article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) to 5 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property. The other was in hiding but was caught in February last year. The convict was charged with robbery (part 2 of article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He will remain in custody until the verdict becomes legally binding.
