Vynnyky Resident Sent for Compulsory Treatment

In Vynnyky, a 47-year-old man who killed his mother and sister has been sent for compulsory treatment. This decision was made by the court at the request of prosecutors from the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

Last June, the man killed his 80-year-old mother, inflicting nine stab wounds on her. He then attacked his 54-year-old sister, who discovered their mother’s body. The woman received several stab wounds but managed to hide with a neighbour, who is the attacker’s godmother.

Later, the man attacked his 56-year-old sister, who was hiding in the bathroom, inflicting fatal injuries on her. The godmother managed to call the police, who apprehended the attacker. Both women were hospitalised with multiple injuries.

A forensic psychiatric expert determined that the man suffers from a severe mental disorder, diagnosed back in 2014. His actions fall under the criminal offences outlined in the articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine regarding intentional murder and attempted murder.

Until the ruling comes into legal force, the man will remain in a psychiatric care facility.
