A 31-year-old resident of the Drohobych district has been sentenced to 5 years and 1 month’s imprisonment for stealing his father’s property and systematic domestic violence against his parents.
Prosecutors of the Drohobych District Prosecutor’s Office proved in court that at the beginning of July this year the man, in one of the villages of the district, stole a compressor from his father’s garage. He then pawned the equipment, and with the money received bought a phone as a gift for his partner. The material damage caused to the victim amounted to almost UAH 5,500.
In addition, the convicted man systematically committed domestic violence against his own parents. At the end of July, during another argument, he punched his father in the face, causing bruising and concussion. Already in August 2026, while intoxicated, the man started a row with his mother: he shouted obscenities, humiliated her and threatened her with a kitchen knife.
It was established that the offender was registered as a perpetrator of domestic abuse and had repeatedly been held administratively and criminally liable for violence against his mother. He usually committed the offences while in a state of alcohol intoxication. In 2022 the man was released from prison after serving a sentence for robbery, but he did not mend his ways and continued to break the law.
He was charged with theft, intentional minor bodily injury and committing domestic violence (Part 4 of Article 185, Part 2 of Article 125, Article 126-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). After the verdict was announced, the man was taken into custody directly in the courtroom, where he will remain until the verdict becomes legally binding.
The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings was carried out by Police Division No. 2 of the Drohobych District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region. The court’s verdict enters into force after the expiry of the time limit for lodging an appeal.
