At the Ukrainian-Polish border, at the Krakovets and Shehyni crossing points, officers of the 7th Carpathian Border Detachment, together with operatives and customs officials, documented two separate offences: the transport of mid-20th century paintings with an incomplete set of documents, and an attempt to bring in a large consignment of undeclared cosmetics.
At the Krakovets crossing point, during an inspection of the luggage of a 58-year-old Polish citizen, two paintings dated 1951 and 1954 were discovered. The woman did not have all the required documents for these canvases, so an expert examination will determine their potential cultural or historical value.
Another incident was recorded at the Shehyni crossing point. There, a 28-year-old resident of Ternopil region attempted to take cosmetics across the border without declaring them: 1,700 sachets of an eyelash lamination product, 30 packs of an eyelash care product and 10 packs of eyebrow dye.
The approximate value of the cosmetics found was estimated at around half a million hryvnias. Customs officials drew up a report, and all the goods together with the paintings were seized and placed in a customs warehouse pending completion of the checks.
