Former Military Unit Commander in Lviv Region Accused of Purchasing Beds at Inflated Prices

Under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense in the Western Region, a 41-year-old former military unit commander has been charged. He is accused of negligence that resulted in significant financial losses during martial law (Part 4 of Article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, in 2022, the colonel purchased 3,000 army beds using state funds. The purchase price was significantly higher than the average market value, causing financial damages to the military unit amounting to nearly 8 million hryvnias.

Currently, the court is considering preventive measures for the suspect. Efforts are also underway to recover the damages caused to the state.

The pretrial investigation is being conducted by the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigation in Lviv, based on materials provided by the Military Counterintelligence Department of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

Reference: The sanction under Part 4 of Article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine provides for imprisonment for a term of 5 to 8 years.
