In the Lviv district, the police are investigating a case of severe neglect of parental duties.
The mother of young children has already been notified of suspicion. The issue of holding the father accountable and providing a legal evaluation of the actions of the relevant service representatives is also being addressed.
On January 30, the police received a report from medics of a Lviv hospital about a six-month-old boy diagnosed with tuberculosis, flu, and other diseases. While the mother was with the younger child in the hospital, another son – a two-year-old boy – was brought to the same hospital with the diagnosis of “burns to numerous parts of the body” obtained by spilling boiling water on himself.
Additionally, doctors found both children to be underweight and suffering from other physical disorders. As established by the officers of police department No. 2 of the Lviv district police department No. 1, the illnesses and injuries of the young children became possible due to improper parental care.
The parents are officially unemployed, and the family is registered with social services. The parents failed to provide the children with proper living conditions, care, and treatment. In total, the family raises seven children aged from six months to ten years.
Under the procedural guidance of the Zhovkva District Prosecutor’s Office, investigators notified the 31-year-old resident of the Lviv district of suspicion of committing a criminal offense laid out in Article 166 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – severe neglect of duties related to child care. The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of restriction or deprivation of liberty for a term of two to five years.
The issue of holding the father accountable and providing a legal evaluation of the actions of the relevant services accompanying the family is also being addressed. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
On February 2, the executive committee of the territorial community adopted a decision on the immediate removal of children from the family and their placement in specialized institutions.
