In Lviv region law enforcement officers have notified a 55-year-old former commander of a military unit of suspicion; he is believed to be involved in a scheme of unfounded additional remuneration payments to service personnel totalling over 79 million hryvnias. This was reported by the Department of Strategic Investigations of the National Police of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, the former head of the military unit signed orders for the accrual of increased additional remuneration to service personnel who in fact did not take direct part in combat operations and did not perform tasks that would have entitled them to receive such “combat” payments.
Law enforcement officers documented that the scheme of unjustified payments operated from March 2023 to April 2024. As part of the criminal proceedings, documents that formed the basis for the accrual of additional remuneration were seized, and audit findings were also obtained from inspections carried out by the territorial office of internal audit of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and the Western Office of the State Audit Service.
On the basis of the collected evidence, the former commander of the military unit has been notified of suspicion. The court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention in custody with the right to post bail.
