Deputy Commander in Lviv Region Used Soldiers for Personal Work — Investigation Launched

In the Lviv region, the deputy commander of a military unit has been exposed for illegally using his subordinates for personal gain over several months, including during his own vacation.

Investigation Findings

According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, prosecutors and investigators from the State Bureau of Investigation uncovered the following:

  • From March to September 2025, the officer ordered subordinates to lay paving stones at sites belonging to a local territorial community in the Lviv region.

  • These works should have been carried out by a private company managed by the officer’s acquaintance.

  • During his vacation, the deputy commander involved three soldiers in renovating his house located in Vinnytsia region.

  • Additionally, they helped install headstones on the officer’s parents’ graves.

Despite this, all soldiers involved continued receiving full military pay as if serving at their assigned posts. The exact financial damage to the state is currently being assessed through forensic economic examination.

Legal Actions and Consequences

  • Under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Western Defense Region, the officer has been charged under Part 5, Article 426-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — abuse of authority by a military official.

  • The court imposed pre-trial detention with an option to post bail of over 1 million UAH.

  • The officer has also been suspended from duty.

  • Investigators are working to determine his involvement in other similar violations.

The investigation is being conducted by the SBI Territorial Office in Lviv.
