The cyber police of the Lviv region together with the investigators of the Lviv RUP No. 1 of the region exposed two fraudsters who defrauded citizens under the guise of levies for the needs of military personnel. The police sent an indictment to the court.
The extras created a fake account on a popular social network and posted posts about raising funds for the treatment of wounded servicemen. The posts indicated details of controlled bank accounts. They spent the received money on their own needs.
In July, operatives of the cyber police, together with investigators of the Lviv RUP No. 1, with the assistance of the operative department of the state institution “Lviv Penitentiary (No. 19)” and under the procedural guidance of the Galician District Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Lviv, conducted 6 searches at the places of registration and residence of the accused in the territory of Odesa, Lviv and Lviv region. According to the results, mobile phones, bank and SIM cards, computer equipment, cash in Russian rubles were seized.
Thanks to the professional work of the law enforcement officers, who quickly identified the fraudsters, the perpetrators managed to defraud only five people. One of the perpetrators is currently serving a sentence in prison, the other suspect was detained. The court chose a preventive measure for him in the form of detention.
Currently, the indictment against the fraudsters has been sent to court.
The actions of the accused are qualified under Part 3 of Art. 190 (fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides up to five years of imprisonment.
