Police expose drug dealers’ couple in Lviv region

During the authorized searches, law enforcement officers seized amphetamine and PVP salts worth about one million hryvnias at black market prices.

The operatives of the Drug Crime Department of the Lviv Police, together with investigators of the Yavoriv District Police Department and under the procedural supervision of the Yavoriv District Prosecutor’s Office, established that a 21-year-old man and his 19-year-old wife, who temporarily reside in Novoyavorivsk, were involved in the storage and sale of psychotropic substances through “masterclasses” and mailing.

On April 23, law enforcement officers detained the man in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine in Novoyavorivsk while he was delivering a postal parcel. The parcel contained 16 packages with rolls of white powdery substance similar to the psychotropic drug amphetamine. In addition, he had one ziplock bag with a substance similar to the psychotropic drug Alpha-PVP. The dealers ordered the drugs on the Internet.

In the course of the operation, law enforcement officers also identified the place where the detainee had hidden a “masterclass” with prohibited substances the day before. Law enforcement officers found and seized 188 ready-made “bookmarks”, including: 130 with Alpha-PVP salts and 58 with amphetamine.

In addition, during an authorized search at the couple’s residence, the police seized rolls and ziplock bags with similar substances, packaging equipment, electronic scales and other material evidence. All the seized items were sent for examination to the Lviv Scientific Research Forensic Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

At black market prices, the value of such “goods” may be about one million hryvnias.

The issue of serving the offenders a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offense stipulated by Part 3 Art. 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Illegal production, manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation, shipment or sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or their analogues) is being settled. The maximum penalty is imprisonment for up to twelve years with confiscation of property.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the court will soon choose a measure of restraint.
