As the law enforcement officers previously established, the detainee shot at people with a hunting rifle because of a long-standing hostile relationship.
On April 27, at 6:20 p.m., a 61-year-old resident of one of the villages of the Sambir region, taking with him a loaded hunting rifle and ammunition, came to the yard of his neighbors, with whom he had a long-standing hostile relationship.
With the first shot, the attacker hit a 37-year-old man who lived in the household in the head, and with the second – in the leg of his 63-year-old mother-in-law. The wounded man died at the scene from his injuries, and the woman, while the neighbor was reloading his weapon, ran into the house and closed the front door. Her husband called the medics and law enforcement officers – later, the doctors performed an operation and saved the injured woman’s life.
In the meantime, the intruder fled into the forest – criminal police operatives and employees of other services of police department No. 1 of the Sambir district police department, as well as fighters of the special purpose police battalion and dog handlers of the Lviv region police were involved in his search. Using a drone with a thermal imager, law enforcement officers located the fugitive and detained him in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
The police took away the weapon from which the shots were fired and sent it for expert examination.
According to the fact, investigators of the territorial division of the police opened criminal proceedings under part 1 of article 115 (Deliberate murder) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and part 2 of article 15 part 1 of article 115 (Attempt to murder) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum punishment that threatens the perpetrator is up to fifteen years of imprisonment.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, the issue of notifying the detainee of suspicion of committing crimes and selecting a preventive measure for him is being resolved.
