The woman is in intensive care with a fractured temporal bone and other injuries. The detainee faces imprisonment for up to eight years for his crime.
As established by criminal police operatives together with investigators of the Police Department No. 2 of the Chervonohrad District Police Department, the incident occurred on 16 October in the town of Velyki Mosty, Chervonohrad district, on the territory of a household belonging to the victim, a 58-year-old local resident. A conflict arose between the woman and her 62-year-old brother, a resident of Zhovkva, during which the man severely beat his sister, striking her numerous times in the head with his fists, and then fled the scene.
Subsequently, doctors diagnosed the victim with a fractured temporal bone and other injuries. She is currently in intensive care.
As a result of the operation, officers of the Police Department No. 2 of the Chervonohrad District Police Department, together with the Criminal Investigation Department of the Lviv Police, established the attacker’s whereabouts and detained him in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine in Zhovkva.
Investigators of the territorial police unit, under the procedural supervision of the Chervonohrad District Prosecutor’s Office, served the detainee a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offence under Part 1 of Article 121 (Intentional grievous bodily harm) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article provides for imprisonment for a term of five to eight years.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the court will soon choose a measure of restraint against the suspect.
