The maximum penalty that threatens the suspect is imprisonment for a term of up to eight years with confiscation of property.
As the law enforcement officers established, on December 24, at lunch time, a 47-year-old resident of Yavoriv district illegally took possession of a “Peugeot Expert” minibus belonging to a 39-year-old resident of another village and drove off in an unknown direction. Having discovered the absence of the car, the owner turned to the police for help.
Detectives of the criminal police and crews of the response sector of the patrol police of the Yavoriv district police department, as well as employees of the Department of Criminal Analysis of the Police of Lviv Oblast were involved in solving the crime.
Through the conducted measures, after studying the recordings of the video surveillance cameras of the Bezpechna Lvivshchyna system, the law enforcement officers established the whereabouts of the wanted Peugeot, stopped it in the village of Nemyriv and detained the driver in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Investigators of the territorial division of the police, under the procedural guidance of the Yavoriv district prosecutor’s office, informed the detainee of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense provided for in part 2 of article 289 (Illegal possession of a vehicle) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment – deprivation of liberty for a term of five to eight years with or without confiscation of property.
The police took the wanted car to a special area. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and soon the court will choose a preventive measure for the suspect.
