It was established that the three perpetrators provided conscripts with documents on unfitness for military service in order to avoid mobilization. The attackers demanded $5,000 for their services.
The suspects, a 23-year-old resident of Zolochiv district, as well as a married couple from Lviv, both aged 56, were exposed by investigators of the particularly serious crimes investigation department (detectives) of the investigative department of the Lviv Oblast police together with employees of the Office of the Security Service of Ukraine in Lviv Oblast, under the procedural guidance of the Specialized prosecutor’s office in the field of defense of the Western region.
For the specified monetary reward, the perpetrators promised conscripts to produce documents to avoid mobilization due to health conditions, with subsequent removal from military registration and the possibility of going abroad.
The law enforcement officers detained the accused near Lviv in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine when they received an illegal reward.
The investigators informed the detainees about the suspicion of committing a criminal offense provided for in Part 3 of Article 332 (Illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment – deprivation of liberty for a period of seven to nine years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years with confiscation of property.
The court chose preventive measures for the suspects in the form of detention.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. The identities of all those involved in the illegal scheme are being established.
