
An investigation has been launched in Lviv region into the circumstances of food poisoning among children who had been on holiday at a lake in the Stryi district. According to doctors, all those admitted to hospital are in a stable condition, their lives are not in danger, and a preliminary diagnosis of intestinal infection has been made. The information was released by the National Police of Ukraine and the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
Officers of the Police Department No. 2 of the Stryi District Police Department established that over the last days of June and at the beginning of July, twenty children aged between 2 and 14 and a 39-year-old man were admitted to one of Lviv’s hospitals. All of them had spent time a few days earlier with their parents at a lake in Stryi district.
Under the procedural guidance of the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office, criminal proceedings have been opened in this case under Part 1 of Article 325 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of sanitary rules and regulations for the prevention of infectious diseases and mass poisoning).
The penalty under this article provides for a fine ranging from one thousand to three thousand tax-free minimum incomes of citizens, or arrest for up to six months, or restriction of liberty for up to three years, or imprisonment for the same term.
A pre-trial investigation is currently under way; law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances of the incident, and the necessary examinations have been ordered.
