For the crime committed, the suspect faces a penalty of up to eight years of imprisonment with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years.
The perpetrator, a 33-year-old resident of Lviv Oblast, was exposed by the investigators of the Department of Investigation of Crimes Committed in the Field of Economic and Service Activities of the Investigative Department of the Police of Lviv Oblast together with operatives of the Office of the Security Service of Ukraine in Lviv Oblast, under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the Defense Sector of the Western Region.
As the law enforcement officers established, the master forester of one of the forestry enterprises of the Lviv region, abusing his official position, demanded and received an illegal benefit from a private person for the unimpeded release of wood from the area of forestry under his control with a total volume of 13 cubic meters.
On May 9, the investigators informed the intruder that he was suspected of committing a criminal offense, provided for in Part 3 of Article 368 (Acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an illegal benefit by an official) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum penalty provided by the sanctions of the articles is imprisonment for a term of up to ten years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of up to three years, with confiscation of property.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. The issue of selecting a preventive measure for the suspect is being resolved.
