Safety Measures for Two-Wheeled Transport Launched in Lviv Region

With the onset of the warm season, the number of two-wheeled vehicles such as motorcycles, scooters, and mopeds has significantly increased on the roads of Lviv Region. This is accompanied by a rise in the number of road traffic accidents involving them. To enhance road safety, preventive measures under the name ‘Two-Wheeled Transport’ have been initiated in the region, running from 9th to 30th April.

During this period, law enforcement officers will intensify patrolling both in populated areas and on the region’s highways. In particular, in the territory of the Drohobych community, crews from the Response Department of the Patrol Police of the Drohobych District Police Department and community officers will be operating. The main focus will be on accident-prone areas.

The key emphasis of the measures is on preventing offences and avoiding road traffic accidents, rather than merely holding individuals accountable. Police will monitor driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, possession of the appropriate category driving licence, use of motorcycle helmets by drivers and passengers, adherence to speed limits, overtaking rules, prevention of driving into oncoming traffic, safe manoeuvring, maintaining a safe distance and interval, rules for crossing uncontrolled intersections, and passenger transport in accordance with safety requirements.

Separately, law enforcement officers will check vehicle registration documents and verify identification numbers against databases to detect stolen or illegally imported vehicles. During the measures, control over cases of minors driving two-wheeled vehicles will be strengthened. Parents are urged to take responsibility for children’s safety and not allow them to operate mechanical vehicles without proper training and appropriate documents.

Law enforcement officers emphasise: adhering to basic traffic rules — using a protective helmet, ensuring the vehicle is in good condition, and observing speed limits — significantly reduces the risk of injury and saves lives. Road safety depends on the responsibility of every participant in traffic.
