Lviv Region to Prosecute Organiser of Smuggling Scheme

A resident of the Mostyska District in the Lviv region organised a scheme for the illegal transportation of cigarettes abroad using drones. This issue is significant for the reader, as such actions harm the economy and the state’s security, according to the Lviv Prosecutor’s Office.

Prosecutors from the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office have sent an indictment to court concerning a 48-year-old man, who is accused of illegal acquisition, storage, and transportation of cigarettes. According to the investigation, last autumn, he organised the smuggling of excise goods across the state border into Poland.

The organiser purchased and stored in a garage 2,880 packs of cigarettes without excise stamps, which he intended to smuggle using three unmanned aerial vehicles. The transfer was planned to be carried out from a launch point 7 km from the border; however, the man was detained by border guards.

The pre-trial investigation was conducted by detectives of the Territorial Department of the Bureau of Economic Security with operational support from the 7th Border Carpathian Detachment of the State Border Service of Ukraine. The individual is considered innocent of the crime until proven guilty in court.
