A 37-year-old man in the Lviv region will be tried for attempting to mail psychotropics to a colony.
According to the investigation, the accused purchased a particularly dangerous psychotropic substance “PVP” for sale and kept it at his home. In July last year, he sent a parcel from the Sambir post office to the name of one of the convicts. In the parcel, the man placed packaging from buckwheat, in which he concealed a package with the prohibited substance weighing over 0.08 grams. He sent it under a false name.
However, the parcel did not reach its intended recipient. Colony staff, during a routine mail inspection, discovered and confiscated the prohibited contents. The actions of the accused are qualified under Part 2 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – illegal acquisition, storage for sale, as well as illegal sale of particularly dangerous psychotropic substances, in places of imprisonment.
It was established that the man has multiple convictions, and he is currently already serving time in prison for another crime. The pretrial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the investigative department of the Sambir District Police Department of the National Police Main Directorate in the Lviv region.
Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court conviction.
