A driver who converted a minibus to transport “evaders” across the border will be tried in Lviv region

The perpetrator was exposed by operatives of the Migration Police Department in the Lviv region together with investigators of the Yavoriv district police department and military personnel of the Lviv border detachment, under the procedural guidance of the Yavoriv district prosecutor’s office.

As the law enforcement officers established, a 45-year-old resident of Dnipropetrovsk region undertook to illegally transport two conscripted men, residents of Sumy region, out of Ukraine.

For this, he used a specially modified Volkswagen Crafter minibus, where he organized a hiding place between the passenger and luggage compartments.

On October 22, he and two “evaders” who were in hiding arrived at the international checkpoint located in the territory of the Yavoriv district of the Lviv region, where he tried to cross the state border of Ukraine with the Republic of Poland. However, during the control, border guards found men hiding in a bush.

The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings opened under Part 2 of Article 332 (Illegal transfer of persons across the state border of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine has been completed. The indictment is referred to the court.

The sanction of the article provides for punishment – deprivation of liberty for a period of five to seven years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years.

The specially converted Volkswagen Crafter minibus, in which the attacker tried to illegally transport men to the Republic of Poland, was seized by law enforcement officers.
