At the Shehyni – Medyka checkpoint, on entry into Ukraine, customs officers together with border guards discovered a concealed load of almost five hundred electronic devices in a MERCEDES-BENZ car, with a total estimated value of 17 million hryvnias.
The car was driven by a 46-year-old resident of Khmelnytskyi region. To cross the border, she chose the ‘green corridor’ lane, intended for persons who are not transporting goods subject to mandatory declaration and taxation.
During the inspection of the vehicle, inspectors found a specially equipped hiding place — a ‘double wall’ between the luggage compartment and the passenger compartment. The cache contained 487 gadgets, including: 303 Apple iPhones, 19 Samsung Galaxy mobile phones, six Google Pixel mobile phones, as well as 159 Apple AirPods Pro 3 wireless earphones.
All the detected goods were seized. A report on violation of customs regulations under Part 1 of Article 483 of the Customs Code of Ukraine was drawn up in respect of the woman. A notification about the incident was sent to the Territorial Department of the Bureau of Economic Security in Lviv region on the grounds of a criminal offence under Article 201-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
