
In the Lviv region, the driver of an Audi while intoxicated caused a fatal accident.
The traffic accident occurred on October 22 around 20:30 in one of the villages of the Stryi district. Preliminary investigations by law enforcement officers revealed that the 38-year-old Audi driver struck a pedestrian — a 52-year-old fellow villager who was walking along the side of the road. As a result of the impact, the woman sustained injuries and died at the scene.
It was also established that the driver was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Investigators from the transportation crime investigation unit of the Lviv region police have launched a criminal case under part 3 of Article 286-1 “Violations of traffic safety rules or vehicle operation by persons driving under the influence” of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and part 1 of Article 135 “Leaving in danger” of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum penalty the detainee faces is imprisonment for a term of three to eight years with the revocation of the right to drive for up to eight years.
Police have detained the driver under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, and the court will soon decide upon a preventive measure. A pre-trial investigation is underway, with law enforcement officers working to establish the circumstances of the incident.
