
In the Lviv region, police identified the driver of a minibus who struck a pensioner and fled the scene.
The fugitive driver, a 39-year-old resident of the town of Stebnyk in Drohobych district, who was driving an Iveco minibus, faces punishment: imprisonment for up to three years and a ban on driving vehicles for up to three years.
On June 13, the Drohobych District Police Department received information from medics about a patient who was diagnosed with, among other things, a compression fracture of several vertebrae and bruises. According to the injured 76-year-old resident of Stebnyk, she sustained bodily injuries the day before as the result of a road traffic accident – an unknown driver in an unidentified vehicle hit her and fled the scene.
Through investigative measures, detectives and response team inspectors of the territorial police unit established that the event took place on June 12 around 11:30 am on Symonenko Street in Stebnyk. It was also established that the collision with the pensioner, who was crossing the road, was caused by a 39-year-old local resident driving a minibus.
The issue of notifying the driver of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense, provided for by Part 1 of Article 286 (Violation of traffic safety rules) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, is being resolved. The maximum penalty provided by the article’s sanction is imprisonment for up to three years, with a ban on driving vehicles for up to three years.
Pre-trial investigation continues. The minibus involved in the collision has been confiscated to a special site by the police.
