Driver involved in fatal collision with pedestrian identified in Lviv region

In one of the villages of Lviv district, a 51-year-old pedestrian, a local resident, was killed after being hit by a car. Police officers established that a 38-year-old driver of a Honda Accord, a fellow villager of the deceased, was involved in the road traffic collision.

The crash occurred on 28 June at around 01:20. At the time, an unidentified driver, operating an unidentified vehicle, ran into the pedestrian and left the scene in an unknown direction. The man sustained severe injuries and died at the scene.

To establish the circumstances of the collision, detectives from the criminal investigation department and other police units in the Lviv region, as well as officers from Police Station No.1 of Lviv District Police Department No.2, were involved. In the course of the measures carried out, law enforcement officers found that a 38-year-old Honda Accord driver was involved in the collision. The vehicle used in the collision was seized and placed in a secure compound.

Investigators from the department for the investigation of transport-related offences of the investigative directorate of Lviv region police have opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of road safety rules). The article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of three to eight years, with a possible driving ban for up to three years or without such a ban.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
